What is the difference between low pressure infusion and injection molding?

There are differences between low-pressure infusion and injection molding in terms of process principles, application range, and material properties.
First of all, in terms of process principles, low-pressure infusion usually uses hot melt adhesive materials. This material has very low viscosity, can be directly injected into the mold through a gear pump, and can be quickly solidified and formed. In contrast, traditional high-pressure injection molding requires material to be extruded through a screw and injected into the mold at higher pressure. Since the pressure of low-pressure injection molding is low (1.5~40bar), it causes less damage to molds and inserts, and is suitable for manufacturing products containing sensitive electronic components or vulnerable parts.
Secondly, in terms of application scope, low-pressure infusion is more commonly used in the electronic and electrical fields and the automotive industry, such as PCBA packaging, connector molding, wire harness covering, etc. These applications usually require high waterproof sealing and strong resistance to environmental impact. Traditional injection molding is widely used in the mass production of various plastic parts, such as toys, household utensils, packaging containers, etc.
Finally, in terms of material properties, the hot melt adhesive used in low-pressure infusion has good bonding properties and is suitable as a packaging material. Due to its own physical properties, it can provide better waterproof and dustproof effects. Traditional injection molding uses materials such as engineering plastics, which may not have the same protective properties.
To sum up, the main difference between low-pressure infusion and injection molding lies in the process principles and other aspects. Low-pressure infusion is more suitable for the protective packaging of precision electronic components, while traditional injection molding is suitable for mass production of various plastic products.
